I think the problem is that McCain wants to be seen as nobly bipartisan, so he won't press the issue on the housing bubble (CRA, Clinton-era lawsuits against banks who didn't lend money to bad risks, Bush-era attempts to reign in Fannie and Freddie (which were thwarted by Barney Frank and company)), since that would point the biggest finger at the Democrats.
So instead he'll talk about "greed on Wall Street and in Washington" without being specific on WHO in Washington had such greed (the only time he's assigned blame to a party is to the Republicans for supporting pork).
I've volunteered for Republican efforts since Sarah was added to the ticket, and I'll continue to do so, but if John McCain is too afraid to stand up to the Democrats, then frankly he's too wimpy to stand up to Putin, Kim Jong Il, and their like.
